Parents Information
The study support centre is part of
the Playing for Success initiative. Our primary role is to
deliver a ten week after school program to pupils from local
primary and secondary schools.
Although the children come to the centre to learn it is not like
being in school, the activities are fun, the atmosphere is
relaxed and informal.
The Basics:
-
Schools will be
invited to attend one of our cohorts.
-
We run three
cohorts a year starting in September, January and April.
-
Cohorts run for
ten weeks.
-
Pupils attend
one session a week.
-
Primary school
pupils will attend 3:30pm - 5:30pm
-
Secondary school
pupils will attend 5:30pm - 7:30pm
-
Pupils are
brought to the centre by minibus from school
-
Pupils are
dropped off back at school after the session.
What We Do:
-
Support pupils
with Literacy, Numeracy and ICT, using the football club and
the ground as a resource to inspire pupils.
-
Activities use a
variety of equipment such as the latest ICT kit, video and
digital cameras, Interactive quizzes and the stadium itself
to help enhance the curriculum and engage pupils.
-
Boost Literacy,
Numeracy and ICT skills and also confidence and self esteem.
What We Don't
Do:
Centre Staff:
-
The centre
has a centre tutor who is a qualified and experienced
teacher.
-
The centre
also has a learner support officer who is experienced and is
qualified in a number of different areas including ICT.
-
The centre
also uses volunteer mentors, who give their time freely to
the centre.
-
Staff and
mentors are CRB checked when they start working at the
centre.
